From Jazz Times
In this most worthy DVD set recorded before a group of Aebersold camp students at the University of Louisville in 2004, Liebman teaches expressive devices and how to practice. At the end of each disc he performs with a rhythm section and on the second DVD he adds “In A Sentimental Mood” as a solo encore on tenor. There is practical instruction:”Saxohonists, don;t play with your head down; it puts pressure on the throat.” And philosophical advice: “you are singing into the horn.” His take on practicing: ”It is work, Make a to-do list.” The performances are the proverbial picture worth a thousand words as Lieb’s face and body portray the music coming from his tenor or soprano. You can see how he vividly applies the expressive techniques he has discussed.”
